Carolina Urrego-Sandoval, PhD

Carolina Urrego-Sandoval holds a PhD in International Political Economy from King’s College London, an MA in International Studies from Aarhus University (Denmark, summa cum laude) and a degree in International Business from Universidad del Tolima. She is currently a Research Professor at Universidad Externado de Colombia, where she is affiliated with the Observatory for the Analysis of International Systems (OASIS). Her research interests centre on International Political Economy (IPE), multilateralism, development cooperation (Aid for Trade), and the trade and geopolitical relations between Latin America and the Asia-Pacific basin.

She has been awarded the Francisco José de Caldas doctoral scholarship (MinCiencias) and the Global Research Grant from King’s College. For her research on the ties between Colombia and South Korea, she was appointed International Research Advisor by the Korea War Memorial Organization in Seoul in 2024 and, in 2025, a member of South Korea’s Global Veterans Honors Club. She has also led projects funded by the Korea Foundation, Universidad Externado de Colombia, Universidad de los Andes and Universidad del Rosario.

Professionally, she has worked for UNCTAD’s Division for Africa and Least Developed Countries in Geneva, the Project and Export Finance Division of Standard Chartered Bank in Mumbai (India), and Colombia’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism, and served as Director of International Relations at Universidad del Tolima. Her teaching experience includes the London School of Economics (LSE Enterprise), Aarhus University and Universidad de los Andes (2018–2025).
